14 December 2017

We are very busy doing lots of pre Christmas shows. Since our successful premiere of FOX on November 9th we have recasted three other plays. We welcome Florian Korty to the TOP CARD CAMILLA Team ( Finn) and Ruben Bravo (Candido/Jose)  to the TORTILLA CURTAIN team. Josh Spriggs has taken over the role of Tom in SEE YOU LATER NAVIGATOR.

On Monday 18th December we will be doing EXPEDITION 3.71 in BKA Theater and TORTILLA CURTAIN in the Distel. Tuesday 19th we are doing BETWEEN THE LINES in the BKA and the TORTILLA CURTAIN in the Distel. After that we will look forward to our Christmas break. In January we will be working on the recasting of TEENAGERS in TROUBLE with Spriggs and Olivia Dean.

Merry Christmas and  a Happy New Year to all...

Platypus News April 2017

Work has begun on this year’s production. We are adapting a children’s story entitled “Fox.” The novel is about the relationship between a homeless man and his pet fox and a young school-boy who is fascinated by the fox. Lindy Annis, who has already written three Platypus plays in the 1990’s including the evergreen TEENAGERS in TROUBLE, will be writing the play. Anja Scollin will be directing. Premiere will be on November 9th in the ufaFabrik.

March 2017

People often ask if we do evening peformances. Yes, we ocasionally do. There are evening performances of THE TORTILLA CURTAIN and of EXPEDITION 3.71 in the ufaFabrik in April and May.

Check out the programm on the website. For teachers with 8th grade pupils: BETWEEEN THE LINES will also be performed on the 4th April at 11.00 a.m. in the ufaFabrik.

December 2016

December is a busy month for us. Most of the shows are booked out but we do have a few seats left for EXPEDITION 3.71 on the 19.12.16 in the Distel, and for THE TORTILLA CURTAIN on the 20.12.16 in the Distel.
Now that Donald Trump is planning to build a bigger and better fence along the U.S.A-Mexico border THE TORTILLA CURTAIN is as relevant as ever. In our play, Kyra says “Damn those Mexicans, why don’t they just round them all up and send them back to Mexico!” It’s hard to believe that Donald Trump is going to try and do this. Perhaps his intentions are all just hot air. Let’s hope so.

31 October 2016

We are looking forward to a very busy November. On the 10th and 11th of November we will perform our brand new play EXPEDITION 3.71 in the BKA Theater in Kreuzberg at 11.00 a.m. There are still some seats available for these performances.

21 October 2016

October 2016

The premiere of EXPEDITION 3.71 went really well. The youngest member of the audience was 7 years old, the eldest was 91. The students from the Romain Rolland Gymnasium and the Emil-Fischer-Schule liked the play. Uli Köhler from the DLR gave a great opening speech about the connection between Art and Science and many of our visitors enjoyed posing for a photo behind the life sized astronaut photo. The next performances are on the 10th and 11th of November in the BKA at 11.00 a.m.

September 2016

Rehearsals for our new play, EXPEDITION  3.71, for senior students are now in full swing in preparation for the premiere on Thursday 13th October at 7 p.m. in the Ufa Fabrik in Tempelhof. The play is relevant for the Abitur theme " Science and technology-Visons of the Future” because it deals with space exploration and the ever increasing likelihood that Astronauts will land on Mars in the not too distant future.

July/ August 2016

Dear English teachers and friends,

We are pleased to present you our new schedule for next season. Please note that SEE YOU LATER NAVIGATOR is only on for a limited season in October and November 2016. The play will be back as from May 2017.

We are optimistic that BETWEEN THE LINES will find its place in the hearts of many more 8th grade teachers and will lead to a regular annual theater visit, as it is with many of the other plays in our repertoire.

We are happy to announce that our funding application for 2017 - 2018 was successful. Thanks to the “Basisförderung” we will be able to produce two new plays in 2017 and 2018. Our English youth theater group (PYT) is up and running. The young people taking part are all 11 years old. The group meets on Saturday mornings from 11-13 hours in Theaterhaus Mitte and is run by Josh Spriggs and Olivia Dean. The group is still open to newcomers. Goodbye Kooky! The KOOKY SHOW will be performed for the very last time on Wednesday June 8th . It’s difficult to stop doing this show because it’s been very popular and teachers are always asking us to do it again. It’s now been running for 16 years and we have lost count of the number of shows we have done.

 May 2016

Having had our feet firmly on the ground in recent years with such plays as The Tortilla Curtain, Blood Knot and Between the Lines, we are looking upwards and into the future with our new project “One Way Mission.” The idea for the play was born out of an article in the Tagesspiegel in 2014 about a Dutch entrepreneur and space freak, Bas Lansdorp, who plans to send people on a one way trip to Mars. He called for volunteers for this risky and dangerous expedition. The response was huge. People from all walks of life, from all over the world applied. Women and men.
