We still have some seats left for the premiere in the ufaFabrik on 11.10.18 at 11 a.m. There is a special preview on Wednesday 10.10.18 at 5 p.m for those who can’t make the morning performance. We are all very excited about JUST THIRTEEEN. The rehearsal period has been very productive. The Team created great images and interesting Characters from Lindy Annis‘ play. JUST THIRTEEN takes a light hearted look at a very serious topic.
Platypus News August 2018
Rehearsals for our new play JUST THIRTEEN have begun. The play was written by Lindy Annis and is being directed by Anja Scollin. Acting in the play are Olivia Dean, Charmaine Gorman and Ben Bishop. JUST THIRTEEN is Ben’s first play with Platypus. Olivia also performs in TEENAGERS IN TROUBLE and Charmaine is in FOX. JUST THIRTEEN is a comedy about teenagers who don’t want to stick out too much but still want to be seen. We recommend the play for 11-14 year olds (Grades 6-8). The Premiere is on Thursday the 11th of February, at 11.00 a.m. in the ufaFabrik. There will be special preview for teachers, parents, friends and fans on Wednesday the 10th of February, at 5 p.m. in the ufaFabrik.
Platypus Theater had 23 sold out performances in June. These were seen by over 3,000 people. So we are looking forward to a well earned summer break. The new program for the autumn and winter months is now on our web site. We have a premiere coming up on October 11th in the ufaFabrik. The name of the play is JUST THIRTEEN. It’s written by Lindy Annis and will be directed by Anja Scollin. There will be a rehearsals in the first week of July and then again as from the end of August.
In the last two weeks of January alone, we had 14 sold-out shows. One of them: the premiere of TEENAGERS IN TROUBLE with a new cast featuring Olivia Dean and Joshua Spriggs. Now we are also taking a short break during the winter vacations. We'll see you back on stage starting February 21. Ticket sales for our upcoming performances from March through July are already in full swing. Our tip: Better book early to not be disappointed later!
We are very busy doing lots of pre Christmas shows. Since our successful premiere of FOX on November 9th we have recasted three other plays. We welcome Florian Korty to the TOP CARD CAMILLA Team ( Finn) and Ruben Bravo (Candido/Jose) to the TORTILLA CURTAIN team. Josh Spriggs has taken over the role of Tom in SEE YOU LATER NAVIGATOR.
On Monday 18th December we will be doing EXPEDITION 3.71 in BKA Theater and TORTILLA CURTAIN in the Distel. Tuesday 19th we are doing BETWEEN THE LINES in the BKA and the TORTILLA CURTAIN in the Distel. After that we will look forward to our Christmas break. In January we will be working on the recasting of TEENAGERS in TROUBLE with Spriggs and Olivia Dean.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all...
Platypus News April 2017
Work has begun on this year’s production. We are adapting a children’s story entitled “Fox.” The novel is about the relationship between a homeless man and his pet fox and a young school-boy who is fascinated by the fox. Lindy Annis, who has already written three Platypus plays in the 1990’s including the evergreen TEENAGERS in TROUBLE, will be writing the play. Anja Scollin will be directing. Premiere will be on November 9th in the ufaFabrik.
We are very happy that Spring is finally approaching.
People often ask if we do evening peformances. Yes, we ocasionally do. There are evening performances of THE TORTILLA CURTAIN and of EXPEDITION 3.71 in the ufaFabrik in April and May.
Check out the programm on the website. For teachers with 8th grade pupils: BETWEEEN THE LINES will also be performed on the 4th April at 11.00 a.m. in the ufaFabrik.
Our Tusch play "Good God-What a Mess" featuring fifth grade pupils from the Hermann Schulz Grundschule will be performed in Podewil on Friday 31st March in Podewil at 9.30 a.m.
December is a busy month for us. Most of the shows are booked out but we do have a few seats left for EXPEDITION 3.71 on the 19.12.16 in the Distel, and for THE TORTILLA CURTAIN on the 20.12.16 in the Distel.
Now that Donald Trump is planning to build a bigger and better fence along the U.S.A-Mexico border THE TORTILLA CURTAIN is as relevant as ever. In our play, Kyra says “Damn those Mexicans, why don’t they just round them all up and send them back to Mexico!” It’s hard to believe that Donald Trump is going to try and do this. Perhaps his intentions are all just hot air. Let’s hope so.
The premiere of EXPEDITION 3.71 went really well. The youngest member of the audience was 7 years old, the eldest was 91. The students from the Romain Rolland Gymnasium and the Emil-Fischer-Schule liked the play. Uli Köhler from the DLR gave a great opening speech about the connection between Art and Science and many of our visitors enjoyed posing for a photo behind the life sized astronaut photo. The next performances are on the 10th and 11th of November in the BKA at 11.00 a.m.
