WORKSHOP - LET’S PLAY!
Under the motto of „Let’s Play!“ we have developed some great workshops for Primary School pupils in grades 4 to 6 (from grade 1 for bilingual schools).
Workshop concept – learning English through doing!
We work at the crossovers between the fundamental principles of acting and theater-making and those of learning and speaking a foreign language. Sound, movement, pace, rhythm, space, gesture, expression, intention and physical presence.
As suggested by the title the aim of the workshop is a playful approach to learning English and to develop a sense of fun about learning another language.
Using various theatre games we get the kids warmed-up to speaking and hearing English and for theatre work in general. The next step is working with them in many improvisation scenarios at which primary school kids are particular good at. After that we move on to small scenes in which the children can try out what they have learned over the course of the workshop.
During the Workshop we do a lot of groupwork with the children. In small groups as well as altogether. At the beginning of the workshop, we want to strengthen the confidence of the pupils in themselves so that later on in the workshop everyone is able to tap into feeling safe and sure “on the stage”. Learning and speaking a new language has a lot to do with self-esteem and confidence.
Who gives the workshops?
Our workshops are taken by a team of theatre educators with a wealth of theatre and pedagogical experience with children and young people. The trained English-speaking facilitators have been developing and conducting workshops for the Platypus Theatre and other associations for many years.
Where do they take place?
We come to you at school, no matter where you are. The workshops can take place in a classroom, music room, aula or even outside. If more than one workshop is happening simultaneously each group will need its own space/room.
How long do the workshops go for?
We can tailor the workshops to suit the needs of your class or school. The workshops can be 3-4 hours long, 3 days or even a whole week as a theatre project. Some schools chose to combine. Workshop with a visit to a show. We can offer workshop mornings or in the afternoon. We are happy to help you find the best solution and advise you about the various options.
